Leon Panetta: The world needs to know that Trump is not who we are

The President of the United States recently made a vulgar and disparaging remark about immigrants to our country from poor and impoverished areas of the world. The remark is unsurprising -- it came from a President who seeks to close our country off from the rest of the world. He has proposed imposing travel bans on visitors from some Muslim-majority nations, building harmful walls, deporting thousands of immigrants from Honduras and El Salvador, and even ending protections for hundreds of thousands of law-abiding recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals programs -- known as Dreamers -- living within our borders.

It is important that the world knows that, although he may be President, Donald Trump does not speak for the overwhelming majority of Americans. This is not who we are.I am the son of Italian immigrants who came to this country from an impoverished area of Italy. Like millions of other immigrants, they came because they believed they could give their children a better life in this country. That is the American dream. That is who we are.
That promise is enshrined on the Statue of Liberty: "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" That is who we are
As Secretary of Defense, I saw proud men and women from families from across the world who volunteered to serve this nation in uniform and were willing to fight and die for America. That is who we are.
We are a land of immigrants. The diversity this confers on America is our strength because immigrants live the American Dream. They and their families are part of our communities, our schools, our businesses, our workforce. We all pledge allegiance to the same flag -- to "one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." That is who we are.

Why can't you go and find a job rather than enjoying the fruit of wife's labor.  The readers can easily make out that you are an uneducated person who sometimes post this kind of comment without thinking.  This is what happens when you follow a leader who tells lie.  No wonder Andrew and Anthappan constantly attack Trump and his policies.  I 100% agree with them. Americans are dragged through the shit by this crooked President.

Trump is a borne liar with 2000 lies in one year to his credit  and he is dangerous for democracy.  See the fellow GOP senator publicly denounced this 'shit-hole' who undermines this country stands for. In him there is a 'Joseph Stalin' hiding.   I know many of of the weak and uneducated Trump supporters those who are happy with a pay raise and a small bonus good enough to survive this winter . His Christian supporters who crucified Jesus are also happy to see that he is torturing the 'naked, hungry, thirsty and refugees"

Republican Sen. Jeff Flake, a frequent critic of President Donald Trump, took to the Senate floor Wednesday morning to rebuke the President for his repeated attacks on the truth as well as his colleagues for failing to be a check on Trump.

"No longer can we compound attacks on truth with our silent acquiescence. No longer can we turn a blind eye or a deaf ear to these assaults on our institutions," Flake said in his speech. "An American president who cannot take criticism -- who must constantly deflect and distort and distract -- who must find someone else to blame -- is charting a very dangerous path. And a Congress that fails to act as a check on the President adds to the danger."
Flake also compared Trump's attacks on the news media to the rhetoric of late Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin and highlighted the longstanding consequences for Trump's attacking the truth.
"For without truth, and a principled fidelity to truth and to shared facts, Mr. President, our democracy will not last," Flake said.

I have a different opinion. This Trump is making life miserable for me and for many of my commenting friends.

My spouse is telling me, job market is very hot, everybody is landing in some good job, go and find a work. What a pity, I wish to sit idle and through mud at Trump.

This guy Trampy should resign immediately for making life tough and making us work.

trump wants a terrorist attack in 2018 to win elections- Stop him, impeach, impeach.

“Who knows what 2018 will be like? Nobody called 2016, right?” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.), the second-ranking Republican in that chamber. “Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was going to get elected and that Chuck Schumer was going to be the majority leader. And none of that turned out to be true.”

Trump, though, is thinking about a different, possibly crazy, comparison:

In private conversations, Trump has told advisers that he doesn’t think the 2018 election has to be as bad as others are predicting. He has referenced the 2002 midterms, when George W. Bush and Republicans fared better after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, these people said.
