മലയാളത്തിനു ശ്രേഷ്ഠ ഭാഷാ പദവി ലഭിച്ചതില്‍ മലയാളികളായ നമ്മള്‍ക്കു അഭിമാനിക്കുവാന്‍ വകയുണ്ട്. പക്ഷേ ഈ പദവി കൊണ്ടു ഭാഷക്കു എന്തെങ്കിലും നേട്ടമുണ്ടാകുമോ എന്ന കാര്യത്തിലാണു സംശയം. ഏതായാലും ഈ വകയില്‍ കേന്ദ്രത്തില്‍ നിന്നും കുറച്ചു നക്കാപ്പിച്ച തടയുവാനുള്ള സാദ്ധ്യതയുണ്ട്. അടഞ്ഞു കിടക്കുന്ന ഒരു ഓഫീസും, അതിന്റെ പേരില്‍ പ്രത്യേകിച്ചു പണിയൊന്നുമി്ല്ലാതെ ശമ്പളം കൈപ്പറ്റുന്ന കുറേ ജീവനക്കാരും ഉണ്ടാകുമെന്നുള്ള കാര്യം ഉറപ്പ്. ഈയിടെയായി മലയാളഭാഷയെ പുതിയ പദാവലി കൊമ്ടു സമ്പുഷ്ഠമാക്കുന്ന പി.സി.ജോര്‍ജ്, രാജ് മോഹന്‍ ഉണ്ണിത്താന്‍, മണിയാശാന്‍, ഇടുക്കി ബിഷപ്പ് തുടങ്ങിയ പണ്ഡിതന്മാരെ ഈ വകുപ്പിലെ ഉപദേശക സമിതിയില്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടുത്തണം.(ഇടുക്കി ബിഷപ്പിനെ കണ്ടാല്‍ മണിയാശന്റെ ജേഷ്ഠനെപ്പോലെ തോന്നുമെന്നു ഈയിടെ വെള്ളാപ്പള്ളി ഗുരുക്കള്‍ ഒരു കാച്ചു കാച്ചിയത് എന്തര്‍ത്ഥിലാണോ?) പിണറായി സഖാവിന്റെ നികൃഷ്ട ജീവി, കുലംകുത്തി തുടങ്ങി ആയിരം അര്‍ത്ഥതലങ്ങളുള്ള വാക്കുകള്‍ കേടുകൂടാതെ ഉപ്പിലിട്ടു സൂക്ഷിക്കണം. ഗണ്‍മോന്‍, ജോപ്പനും, കോപ്പനും, സരിതാ തരംഗം, മണിയും മാണിയും, നിയമം നിയമത്തിന്റെ വഴിക്കു പോകും, മുതലായ അമൂല്യ പദശേഖരങ്ങള്‍ പുതിയ പാഠപുസ്തകങ്ങളില്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടുത്തണം.
അമേരിക്കയില്‍ വളരുന്ന നമ്മുടെ കുട്ടികളെ മലയാള ഭാഷ വിദ്യാന്മാരാക്കുന്നതില്‍ പല സാംസ്‌ക്കാരിക സംഘടനകളും, ആരാധനാലയങ്ങളും കിണഞ്ഞു പരിശ്രമിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്- അവര്‍ക്ക് ഈ എളിയവന്റെ നമോവാകം!
അമേരിക്കയിലെ ആദ്യകാല കുടിയേറ്റക്കാരായ മലയാളികള്‍ കുട്ടികളെ മലയാളം പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്നതില്‍ വലിയ താല്‍പര്യം കാണിച്ചിരുന്നു.( ആ തലമുറയില്‍ പെട്ട പലരും 'കുടി' ഏറിപ്പോയതിനാല്‍ അകാല ചരമം പ്രാപിച്ചു എന്നുള്ള കാര്യം ഖേദപൂര്‍വ്വം സ്മരിക്കുന്നു). അവധിക്കാലത്തു നാട്ടില്‍ ചെല്ലുമ്പോള്‍, അംഗ്രേസി അറിയാത്ത വല്യപ്പച്ചനോടും, വല്യമ്മച്ചിയോടും ആശയവിനിമയം നടത്തുക എന്നതായിരുന്നു ഉദ്ദേശം. എന്നാല്‍ പലകുട്ടികളും ഡിപ്ലോമ നേടുന്നതിനു മുന്‍പായി 'ഡ്രോപ്പ് ഔട്ട്' ചെയ്തു. വല്യപ്പച്ചനും, വല്യമ്മച്ചിയും സമയമാംരഥത്തില്‍ യാത്ര ചെയ്തു പരലോകം പൂകിയിട്ടു ദശകങ്ങള്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞു. ഇന്നു കുട്ടികളുടെ കുട്ടികളും കുഞ്ഞുകുട്ടികളും വരെയായി. ഈ ഇളം തലമുറയേയും മലയാള ഭാഷ പഠിപ്പിച്ചേ അടങ്ങൂ എന്ന വാശിയിലാണു ചിലര്‍. ഇതു തികച്ചും ആവശ്യമില്ലാത്ത ഒരു കാര്യമാണെന്നാണ് എനിക്കു തോന്നുന്നത്. നേഴ്‌സറിയിലും, കിന്‍ഡര്‍ഗാര്‍ട്ടനിലും എ,ബി,സി,ഡി പഠിക്കുവാന്‍ പാടുപെടുന്ന ഈ സമയത്ത്, അവരെ ക,ഖ,ഗ,ഘ ചൊല്ലിക്കൊടുത്ത് വെറുതേ എന്തിനു കണ്‍ഫ്യൂസ്ഡാക്കണം? പണ്ടു പണ്ടു ആശാന്‍ കളരിയില്‍, മണ്ണില്‍ വിരലുകൊണ്ടു പീഢനമേറ്റു വളരെ പാടുപെട്ടു പഠിച്ച ച്ച്‌റാ, ങ്ങേറേ, തേറേ തുടങ്ങിയ അക്ഷരങ്ങള്‍ ജീവിതത്തില്‍ ഒരിക്കല്‍പോലും പ്രയോഗിക്കേണ്ടി വന്നിട്ടില്ല. മലയാള ഭാഷ പഠിച്ചതുകൊണ്ട് ഇവിടെ ജനിച്ചു വളരുന്ന കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ഭാവിയില്‍ ഒരു പ്രയോജനവും ഉണ്ടാകുവാന്‍ പോകുന്നില്ല. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സ്വന്തം നാട്ടില്‍ത്തന്നെ ഇന്നു മലയാള ഭാഷക്ക് സിംഹവാലന്‍ കുരങ്ങന്റെ അവസ്ഥയാണുള്ളത്. യാചക അസോസിയേഷന്റെയും, മന്ത്രിമാരുടേയും മക്കളെല്ലാം ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് മീഡിയം സ്‌ക്കൂലിലാണ് പഠിക്കുന്നത്. കേരളത്തില്‍ ഇന്നും ഏറ്റവും ലാഭകരമായി പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്ന് വ്യവസായമാണ് വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ കച്ചവടം.
വേള്‍ഡ് മലയാളി കൗണ്‍സില്‍ വീണ്ടും ഒരുമിച്ചു പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുവാന്‍ തീരുമാനിച്ചു. ലയനത്തിനു മുന്‍പായി ഒരു പിളര്‍പ്പുണ്ടായിക്കാണുമല്ലോ! ഇവരു വിഘടിച്ച കാര്യം നേതാക്കന്മാരല്ലാതെ സാദാ അമേരിക്കന്‍ മലയാളികള്‍ ആരും അറിയാതെ പോയത് കഷ്ടമായിപ്പോയി. 1995 ജൂലൈ മാസം ന്യൂജേഴ്‌സിയില്‍ നടന്ന പ്രഥമ വേള്‍ഡ് മലയാളി കൗണ്‍സില്‍ കണ്‍വന്‍ഷനില്‍ പങ്കെടുക്കുവാനുള്ള ഒരു ഭാഗ്യം അടിയനും ലഭിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ ഒരു ഇലക്ഷന്‍ കമ്മീഷ്ണറുണ്ടെന്നു തെളിയിച്ച ശക്തനായ ടി.എന്‍. ശേഷനായിരുന്നു മുഖ്യാതിഥി. മലയാളത്തിന്റെ മഹാനടനായ മധുവായിരുന്നു കലാപരിപാടികള്‍ ഉല്‍ഘാടനെ ചെയ്തത്. അവിടെ എന്താണു സംഭവിച്ചതെന്ന് ഇന്നും പരീക്കുട്ടിക്കു പിടികിട്ടിയിട്ടില്ല. ആരാധകരുടെ സല്‍ക്കാരമേറ്റു അത്ര ഫോമിലായിരുന്നു കറുത്തമ്മയുടെ കാമുകന്‍- അഭിനയരംഗത്തും, നൃത്തരംഗത്തും മികവു തെളിയിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള അഹങ്കാരത്തിനു കൈയ്യും കാലും വെച്ച ഉര്‍വ്വശി ശോഭനയുടെ കിണ്ണത്തില്‍ കയറിയുള്ള കറക്കം ആദ്യകണ്‍വന്‍ഷനു ചാരുത പകര്‍ന്നു. സപ്തമശ്രീ ആന്‍ഡ്രൂ പാപ്പച്ചനായിരുന്നു കൗണ്‍സിലിന്റേയും കണ്‍വന്‍ഷന്റേയും നെടുംതൂണ്‍! കാലത്തിന്റെ മലവെള്ളപ്പാച്ചിലിനിടയില്‍, എവിടെയോ ഒരു വേര്‍പിരിയല്‍ ഉണ്ടായി. കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ്സിലെ 'ഏ' ഗ്രൂപ്പും 'ഐ' ഗ്രൂപ്പും പോലെ, 'എ.പി' ഗ്രൂപ്പും(ആന്‍ഡ്രൂ പാപ്പച്ചന്‍) എ.വി.ഗ്രൂപ്പും(അലക്സ് വിളനിലം) ഉണ്ടായി. ഇവരാണു ഈ കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം ലോകമലയാളികളുടെ ഉന്നമനത്തിനായി തോളോടു തോള്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന്ു പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുമെന്ന് ഉറക്കെ പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചത്. ഒരു ന്ിമിത്തം പോലെ ലയനസമ്മേളനവും ന്യൂജേഴ്‌സിയില്‍ വെച്ചാണ് അരങ്ങേറിയത്. 'റിനയസന്‍സ്' ഹോട്ടലിന്റെ ബാങ്ക്വറ്റ് ഹാള്‍ വേദിയില്‍ ആന്‍ഡ്രുവും, അലക്‌സും കെട്ടിപ്പിടിച്ചു പൊട്ടിക്കരഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍, അതിനു സാക്ഷികളായവരും കൂട്ടത്തില്‍ കരഞ്ഞുപോയി! ഫൗണ്ടിംഗ് ഫാദേഴ്‌സിനെ ഓഡിയന്‍സുമായി മിംഗിളു ചെയ്താനന്ദിച്ചു. 'കാഷ് ബാറിനു' പകരം 'ഓപ്പണ്‍ ബാറാ' യിരുന്നെങ്കില്‍ സംഗതി കലക്കിയേനേ! ഏതായാലും ഒരുമിച്ചല്ലോ! കര്‍ത്താവിനു സ്്‌തോത്രം- ഇനി OCI കാര്‍ഡ്, പാസ്‌പോര്‍ട്ട്, വിസ, നാട്ടിലെ സ്വത്തുകക്കളുടെ ക്രയവിക്രയം- തുടങ്ങിയ കാര്യങ്ങളില്‍ എന്തെങ്കിലും പ്രശ്‌നമുണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ വേള്‍ഡ് മലയാളി കൗണ്‍സിലിന്റെ ലോകത്തെവിടെയുമുള്ള ഓഫീസറുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടാല്‍ മതി. ഒരു ചെറിയ മുന്നറിയിപ്പ്: ആര് എന്തു തറവേല കാണിച്ചാലും തന്റെ കൊക്കിനു ജീവിനുള്ള കാലത്തോളം ആന്‍ഡ്രൂപാപ്പച്ചന്‍ തന്നെയായിരിക്കും വേള്‍ഡ് മലയാളി കൗണ്‍സിലിന്റെ അനിഷേധ്യ നേതാവ്1
സമ്മേളനത്തിനു സാക്ഷിയായി ആദ്യാവസാനം ബഹുമാന്യനായ ടി.എസ്്. ചാക്കോയുമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ചാക്കോച്ചന്‍ ഹാപ്പിയാണ്. ഹാപ്പിയെന്നു പറഞ്ഞാല്‍ പോരാ, വെരി വെരി ഹാപ്പി. പ്രവാസി ചാനല്‍ സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുന്ന 'നാമി' അവാര്‍ഡ് മത്സരത്തില്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍ ചാക്കോച്ചനാണു ലീഡു ചെയ്യുന്നത്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പുഞ്ചിരി പോലെ തന്നെ പ്രൊഫൈല്‍ ഫോട്ടോയുടെ ചുറ്റുമുണ്ട് ഒരു പ്രകാശവലയം- ഒന്നും, രണ്ടും, മൂന്നും സ്ഥാനങ്ങളലങ്കരിക്കുന്നത് ഫൊക്കാനാ നേതാക്കന്മാരായ ടി.എസ്.ചാക്കോ, ജോണ്‍ പി. ജോണ്‍, ആനിപോള്‍ എന്നിവരാണ്. അന്‍പതിലധികം അംഗ സംഘടനകള്‍ ഉണ്ടെന്നു അവകാശപ്പെടുന്ന 'ഫോമ' യുടെ സാരാഥി ആനന്ദന്‍ നിരവേല്‍ ആദ്യറൗണ്ടില്‍ മുന്‍നിരയിലായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും ഇപ്പോള്‍ ട്രാക്കിനു പുറത്തായ ലക്ഷണമാണു കാണുന്നത്. അംഗ സംഘടനകള്‍ ഒന്ന് ഒത്തുപിടിച്ചാല്‍ ഒരു അട്ടിമറി വിജയം പ്രതീക്ഷിയ്ക്കാം. ഏതായാലും സംഗതി ഉഷാറായി മുന്നോട്ടു പോകുന്നു എന്നറിഞ്ഞതില്‍ ബഹത്തു കുശി.
അമേരിക്കയില്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍ മതസമ്മേളനങ്ങളുടെ ബഹളമാണ്. എല്ലാ സഭകള്‍ക്കും, സമുദായങ്ങള്‍ക്കും ഫാമിലി കോണ്‍ഫറന്‍സുകളുണ്ട്- 'സുഖകരമായ താമസവും, രുചികരമായ ഭക്ഷണവും' പലരും വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്യുന്നുണ്ട്. സന്ധ്യാ പ്രാര്‍ത്ഥനയ്ക്കു ശേഷം കലാപരിപാടികള്‍ അരങ്ങേറും. ഈ വക സമ്മേളനങ്ങള്‍ കൊണ്ട് ആര്‍ക്കെങ്കിലും മനഃപരിവര്‍ത്തനമുണ്ടായതായി സാക്ഷ്യപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടില്ല. എങ്കിലും നമ്മുടെ യുവതലമുറയ്ക്ക് തമ്മില്‍ ബന്ധപ്പെടുവാനുള്ള ഒരു നല്ല അവസരമാണിത്. ഇത്തരം കണ്‍വന്‍ഷനുകളിലൂടെ സ്ഥാപിച്ച സൗഹൃദം പലതും വിവാഹത്തിലേക്ക് നയിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്- നല്ല കാര്യം! എങ്ങനെയുണ്ടായിരുന്നു ഫാമിലി കോണ്‍ഫറസ് എന്നു ചോദിച്ചാല്‍ 'അടിപൊളി' യായിരുന്നു എന്നാണു ചിലരുടെ പ്രതികരണം.
ചില മതമേലദ്ധ്യക്ഷന്മാര്‍ പരിവാരസമേതമാണു പിരിവിനായി എഴുന്നെള്ളുന്നത്. ഇവരുടെ യാത്രാചിലവിനു തന്നെ എത്ര ഭാരിച്ച ഒരു തുകയാണു ചിലവാകുന്നതെന്നു ചിന്തിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ തന്നെ ദുര്‍ബലരായ കുഞ്ഞാടുകളുടെ തലകറങ്ങും- 'പണപ്പിരിവ്' എന്ന ഇനമാണു പുരോഹിതന്മാരുടെ അജണ്ടായിലെ ഒന്നാമത്തെ ഇനം.
ചിലര്‍ ഈ സന്ദര്‍ശനത്തിനു ഒരു 'സ്റ്റാര്‍ഷോ' പരിവേഷം നല്‍കുവാന്‍ ശ്രമം നടത്തുന്നതായും പിന്നാമ്പുറ വാര്‍ത്തകളുണ്ട്. മെത്രാനുമൊത്തൊരു ഫോട്ടോയ്ക്ക് മിനിമം ഇരുനൂറു ഡോളറിന്റെ ഒരു ഗാനമേള ടിക്കറ്റെടുത്താല്‍ മതിയേ്രത! തിരുമനസ്സിനോടൊപ്പം 'മേശ' ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിനും നല്ലൊരു തുക ഈടാക്കും ചിലവുകഴിഞ്ഞുള്ളൂ ലാഭം ചാരിറ്റി പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ക്കു വേണ്ടി വിനിയോഗിക്കും-

What has world malayalee council done so far ? other than standing on stage in full suit and publishing some phots ? Hope one of the great leaders or load bearers will list their accomplishments.

I participated not because I was a Committee member and my daughter was the MC.
but large number of malayalees participated with the true Kerala spirit. Eventhough I did not have any major role in these conferences, I used to participate in the FOKHANA
conferences befor the split. Eventhough we the Americans Malayalees do not expect
miracles, lt it go just to enthuse our early immigrants.
As it is known Raju Mylapra's articles are not only funny, but thought provoking too.
Inviting Kerala politicians, movie actors, religious hirarcies to this country, in any way,
won't do any good to our third generation, but perhaps enthuse the older folks.
Was reading some of the articles and comments. Some are very interesting. Mylappra did a good job.
I happened to take my mother to a very famous christian mission hospitals. They get medicines and equipments from Germany and US. This is exactly what happened. A 2 yr old boy from a very poor family was brought in with 'tetanus'. Little one needed a injection within minutes or he will die. Nuns refused to give the injection as they had no money to prepay for it. Boys mother was crying and pleading, but nuns were very firm and told her to take the kid to a Govt. hospital miles away. Then few people, including me started to argue, but had no effect. So I myself paid for the injection and the boy was saved. Others in the out patient collected some money and gave to the kids mother.
What you see under that news is the true reflection of what religion is trying to do when some tragic things happen and there is nothing ludicrous in it, Mylapara. When a Malayaalee Christian dies we see the big lines of priests and religious people giving long obituary about that person even though they don’t know anything about that person. Anyankunju tried to dig under that news and plant his Christian seed and we all are reacting to it.

World malayalee council , when did they split. All these years were they were hiding.
And as some other comments asked what did you do so far. Give us an itemized list.
Some people get bend out of shape when christanity is criticized. I see most of the articles in e malayalee are about them or by them and so are the comments. If you don't want to be commented don't bring your religion out here. Anthappan has brought out the evil behind all religions, it is foolish to call some one atheist just because you don't like him.
Some of the articles and poems are boring and annoying as someone said. When they going to realize to stop writing no sense. We all know some of them pay to get books and articles written for them. Then they arrange an award for themselves. I can give some names, but editor will go click, click.
but no one has answere the question- what has WMC did so far.
Why is WMC getting mad, come out from hiding and tell us what have you done other than stand on stage and pose.

Mr. Milapra has done a good job in discussing three topics, clearly, in this article.
1. Literature; I don’t know too much about the Malayalam literature growth worldwide. But one thing is needed for sure for the growth of any language and that is the scholars around us to guide in that process. Language is subject to change but it should not destroy the infrastructure laid by the people who dedicated their life for it. Whatever people write must communicate clearly with the readers. If the idea is not crossing over to the mind of people and making them think there is no use with that writing. Unfortunately, there are so many people in USA writing things which nobody understands. Writers shouldn’t try to cram their life time knowledge into an article or poem and that will back fire.
2. I sometimes try to make sense out of organizations and their purpose in this country; the purpose of the organizations in this country is incomplete without participating in the political process of this nation. Malayaalees are completely detached from it and living in a dream world thinking that others will do everything for their next generation. Many times Malayalee organizations are missing from the other groups out there in the street fighting for their rights. I see this us the lack of right leaders. It is easy to live in a comfort zone and make long statements.
3. Religion: As Dali Lama said, “This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.”
