HINDUISM
the word is very confusing. Do we have to break a coconut to clear
the confusion?
Most
people get confused what Hinduism is. Hinduism is one of the
greatest thoughts in the world. It is very broad, vast like the
mighty ocean. It is not a particular religion. It is a collection of
all different kind and even contradicting thoughts. Atheism,
monotheism, polytheism, cosmo-theism, micro-theism; Jainism,Buddhism
and even Indian Christianity & Islam is part of Hinduism. Middle
eastern/ Mediterranean thoughts and even Christianity was influenced
by Hinduism. Many of the sayings of Jesus, that is narrated in the
gospels are borrowed from Buddhism. So Hinduism is not an isolated or
secluded religion within in the geographical boundaries of the
Indian Sub-continent. The literature of Hinduism is so vast a human
many need several lives to read them. All the scholars of Hinduism
were never able to learn even a small fraction of Hinduism.
So
it is unfortunate that Hinduism is understood as it is practiced by a
Hindu religious man or devote. In other words what we see these days
as Hinduism is temple religion, and it has very little to share with
Hinduism.
The
temple religion is very confusing and it is very far away from the
core of Hinduism. People measure religion by what is practiced and
performed by its members. “ The holy books” has great ideas and
thoughts. But that doesn’t mean that what ever is done by a member
of that particular religion is what is said in those books. You
cannot identify the deeds of any devote to his religion. A cunning
devote { not a true one} will always try to associate his deeds to
the religion and 'he god of that religion. That was one of the major
draw backs of all religions. 'In the name of god'- the cruel, cunning
and selfish did evil. Wars in the name of god has killed more humans
than the total of all political wars combined. And is continuing even
now in many parts of the globe.
Religion
cannot disclaim the deeds of the devotee. If the devotee is doing
evil in the name of a religion, that religion has something wrong
fundamentally. Christian priests are getting arrested world wide for
crimes they did. Several pastors are in American prisons for crimes
and fraud. But in India & Kerala things are different.
Politicians and religious leaders commit crime and seek shelter under
the party or religion. That is evil. It must not be tolerated in
order for the civilization to survive.

Hinduism has many thought patterns. The same can be seen in the West as secular philosophy. We should look how Hinduism is practiced. Nothing great in the practice. Adding to that is the political Hinduism showing its ugly head with RSS and BJP. Hinduism explains many things. But it has no answer for the questions of the meaning of life, what happens after life, etc. They may say that there are rebirths. any proof? none as heaven of Christians and Muslims. They say that after a cycle fo deaths and births one will reach parabrahma. what is that? The gods are only like humans. Above all the abominable caste system.

Vargeeyan, your comment shows your shallow understanding of the root of Hinduism. You need to understand vedantic philosophy by studying some of the Upanishads that make enquiries into the nature of man, the universe, God, etc., and present them in different angles. The Upanishads, in the opinion of many famous western philosophers and thinkers, are one of the highest achievements of human thought. Physicists in the frontiers of quantum mechanics often find similarities in thinking with the Upanishads.
