Cherian E. Varghese(Thampachayan ) Houston

Cherian E. Varghese (Thampanachayan) was born to Mr. E.C. Cherian and Sosamma Cherian of Edathuapeedikayil House, Puthencavu, Kerala, India on July 27, 1938. He is the fourth of their eight children. His siblings are late E.C. Cherian, late E.C. John, E.C. Oommen, Gracy John, Leelamma George, E.C. Alexander, & Mathew Cherian. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior as a young man during his service in the Indian Army and was baptized soon after.
He married Rachel Cherian (Ammini) on April 13, 1967 at the age of 28. God blessed them with their son Godley in January of 1973. Rachel moved to New York in May of 1974 and Cherian and Godley joined her in November of 1975. In June of 1978, they welcomed their daughter Sini. The following year, they moved to Houston, Texas and had their daughter Sweena in December of 1981.
For the past 37 years, Cherian and his family have called Houston home where he served as an elder in the local Brethren community from 1982 until the Lord called him home.
Cherian was surrounded by his wife, children, and close family as he went home to be with the Lord. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Rachel Varghese; his oldest son Godley Varghese, his wife Reena, and son Devin; his daughter Sini Jacob, her husband Tiju, and children Gabriel, Adrian, and Mason; and his youngest daughter Sweena Jacob and her husband Reggie Jacob.
He lived an exemplary life of deep conviction and passion for the Lord, His Word, and the shepherding of His people. He set a great example for his family and friends to live a life of commitment to Jesus Christ. Cherian will be greatly missed here on earth but we know that he is in the presence of his Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ. We have a hope that we will see him again one day in heaven.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 6:00 pm at IPC Hebron Church, 4660 Sam Houston Pkwy E, Houston, TX 77048. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 9:30 am at IPC Hebron Church. Mr. Varghese will be laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park immediately following the service.
