Hillary Clinton should not face criminal charges: FBI

Washington, Nov 7

FBI Director James Comey told lawmakers Sunday the agency hasn't changed its opinion that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton should not face criminal charges over her use of personal e-mail server during her stay in the State Department, after a review of new e-mails.

Comey had dropped a bombshell 11 days from the November 8 election when he informed Congress that the FBI had discovered e-mails in its separate investigation of Anthony Weiner, the estranged husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin, that could be connected to its investigation of whether Clinton mishandled classified information by using a private e-mail server, CNN reported.

"Based on our review, we have not changed our conclusions that we expressed in July," Comey said in a letter to top Republicans on the House Oversight Committee.

Comey's letter was the culmination of a fast-paced review of the newly discovered e-mails, law enforcement sources said on Sunday.

"We went through this as fast as we could," a senior law enforcement official told CNN.

The e-mails, thousands found, were mostly duplicates of what had already been seen and personal e-mails, law enforcement officials said in explaining how the conclusion was reached so quickly. The laptop which was found was around a decade old, with lots of personal content on it not relevant to the investigation, according to one source.

In July, Comey said Clinton had been careless but not criminal in handling sensitive material on her private e-mail server as Secretary of State.

It's impossible to know before results are tallied what impact Comey's actions -- first raising a vaguely worded red flag 11 days out, and then lowering it two days from the election -- will have on the contest.

But the news could help Clinton put to rest a controversy that has dogged her in the 2016 race's closing days, helping her rival Donald Trump narrow a polling gap nationally and in key battleground states.

Trump says the FBI knows Clinton is guilty of crimes

Sterling Heights, Nov 7 (IANS) Hours after the FBI affirmed that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton would not be prosecuted for her private e-mail server, Donald Trump said rank-and-file agents "won't let her get away with her terrible crimes".

At a rally on Sunday night in this Detroit suburb, Trump cast doubt on the thoroughness of the FBI's review of e-mails that Clinton advisor Huma Abedin kept on a computer belonging to her estranged husband, Anthony Weiner, the disgraced former New York congressman, Los Angeles Times reported.

"You can't review 650,000 new e-mails in eight days," Trump told a rowdy crowd of thousands at an outdoor amphitheatre.

"You can't do it, folks. Hillary Clinton is guilty. She knows it. The FBI knows it. The people know it. And now, it's up to the American people to deliver justice at the ballot box on November 8."

The crowd repeatedly broke into loud chants of "Lock her up!" as Trump pounded Clinton for using a private e-mail system when she was Secretary of State.

Michigan was the third of five states where the Republican presidential candidate was campaigning on Sunday.

Obama urges Florida voters to choose Clinton

Miami, Nov 7 (IANS) US President Barack Obama hitting the campaign trail again asked Florida voters to choose the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and prevent her Republican rival, Donald Trump, from getting into the White House.

Obama on Sunday called upon those attending a rally at the baseball stadium in Osceola Heritage Park in central Florida and exhorted the public to "help finish what we (Democrats) started eight years ago."

Obama said that all the progress made in the last eight years "goes out the window if we don't win this election. And we win this election if we win Florida", Efe news reported.

With a win in Florida, Clinton could seal her lead over Trump, he said. "So we've got to work our hearts out this week -- these next two days -- as if our future depends on it," Obama said.

Obama addressed some 11,000 people at the afternoon rally, speaking for about 30 minutes and going over his economic achievements as president, praising Clinton for her work ethic - calling her "the Energizer bunny".

Obama won Florida in both 2008 and 2012, but prior to him only Bill Clinton in 1996 had won the state for the Democrats since 1976.

According to official figures on Sunday in Florida, 6.1 million people have voted early or by mail, but only 32,000 more registered Democrats than Republicans have cast ballots, just a 0.5 per cent difference.

Clinton holding on to lead at national level in latest voter surveys

Washington, Nov 7 (IANS) US Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is holding on to a 3-5 per cent lead over her Republican rival, Donald Trump, in the latest voter surveys two days before the November 8 election.

Despite substantially cutting into the lead Clinton enjoyed a little over a week ago, Trump has remained unable -- so far, at any rate -- to breach the 43 per cent threshold in terms of voter support, a situation that reconfirms the fact that the business magnate is not managing to attract undecided voters, EFE news reported.

A Washington Post/ABC News survey conducted on November 1-4 and published on Sunday gives Clinton 48 per cent and Trump 43 per cent in terms of people who say they intend to vote.

Meanwhile, a nationwide survey by Politico and the Morning Consult consulting firm conducted on Friday and Saturday gives Clinton 45 per cent to Trump's 42 per cent.

Another survey published on Sunday and carried out jointly by The Wall Street Journal and NBC News shows the former Secretary of State leading the real-estate mogul by 44 per cent to 40 per cent.

The average of the main voter surveys prepared by the RealClearPolitics Web site, and including the Libertarian and Green Party candidates, Gary Johnson and Jill Stein, respectively, gives Clinton a 44.9 per cent to 42.7 per cent advantage over the billionaire.

Trump has not been able to surpass the 44 per cent mark in any of the recent polls, thus proving unable -- so far -- to expand his voter base.

The national level data, despite the fact that they do not properly reflect the state-by-state weight in the Electoral College, are an indicator of how the country is trending and show that undecided voters have generally not been moving onto Trump's side of the ledger.
