We hear continued accusations in the media that Republicans are mean spirited. We all can be mean spirited at times when we get insecure. Psychologists and Psychiatrists say that meanness result from insecurity. It is our own insecurity that makes us act mean and watch with fear and suspicion fellow human beings. Little children act mean by holding all the toys for themselves and, do not share with others. If I share I will be left with nothing is their thinking.

It is said that our insecurity is inversely proportional to our faith in God. Those who have strong faith in God are ready to share what they have with others, and they do not accumulate much wealth. This is the reason Jesus said it is difficult for the rich to get into the kingdom of Heaven. Most of the Republicans might be self made rich and naturally they might believe in their own capabilities and security arrangements rather than trust in God. A person might attend church regularly but it is possible that his/her trust is in self. Those who have strong faith in God trust more in their faith for security as to them these politicians can’t protect them but God.

These politicians transfer their inherent insecurity feelings to their constituents and brainwash them to get elected. Now those who were once secure become insecure of the threats these people highlight. It is their insecurity and anxiety that they are injecting into others.

I do not call them selfish as selfishness is in all of us. They consider mostly for themselves and, others are not in their world, if these others are not the people they identify as one family, race, religion or party. Such people tend to be racist as they are afraid of foreigners. They have few close friends as foreigners and so their understanding about foreigners is from misunderstanding. They appoint or give promotion to important positions to their own people as they view others with suspicion.

At times we all can show such mentality when we get insecure. I know a Black supervisor and a Gay person that prefer to hire mostly their own people. One of my previous supervisors told me that we Indians are here to take their job. Such views are seen all over the world towards people groups in different countries. One Black lady at work while talking to her told me that she likes to see that wall erected between Mexico and USA. I figured out that she must have voted for Trump. It is probable that Hilary did not win the election because many Blacks did not vote for her. Such Black people think that the Hispanics are here to take their jobs. They feel insecure about them. So Trump might have won the election by playing on the insecurity feelings of many that voted for him. Same way the BJP came to power in India by playing on the insecurity feelings of the majority that anything other than Hindu is foreign and dangerous.

Some Indians here show the same mentality. Once they are inside the fence they do not care about those outside the fence, and think those outside as a threat to their security. They do not show mercy or compassion to those outside. Some of them once here for few years and made some money and, they identify with the Republicans. No matter how close you identify with them they do not consider you as one with them. Why not let in hard working people from outside if we benefit from them. If you think otherwise it is your own insecurity the reason.

In the present situation what President Trump did was highly inappropriate. US government again broke a promise. The VISA was issued by US government after proper background check. Green card holders were living here peacefully for years. Decent people need to keep the promise they made for others to respect them. To consider that to break promise is smart will turn out to be not that smart in the long run.
