THE SHEPHERDS AND THE UNINVITED GUEST (Poem: Philip Eapen)
Another quiet and cold winter night in the city of Bethlehem.
Sleeping city and sleeping people,
Taking a short break from the strife and struggle of their day to today life.
A little far away from the city, there was a group of people,
Who hardly sleep at night as they have too many lives to take care of.
They are the Shepherds watching over their flocks at night.
They protect the sheep from their enemies at night.
Humble and honest they are, butunesteemed and unnoticed.
Labeled as outcast and unclean.
These poor Shepherds had an “Uninvited Guest” from heaven that night.
Father God sentdown His Messenger to theShepherdsthat night
With a message that spoke of the fulfillment of a prophesy and a promise:
“Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you,
He is Christ, the Lord; this will be a sign to you,
You will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger”
Terrified they were when the “Uninvited Guest” appeared to them.
The glory of the Lord that surrounded the Guest made them speechless.
Departed the Messenger after delivering the message from the Master in heaven
Singing the first Carol that was ever sung: “Glory to God in the highest
And on earth peace and good will toward men”.
Hurried they off to the city of Bethlehem to see what they heard from their Guest.
Saw they “the new born babe wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger”.
They rejoiced and glorified the God Almighty for the wonderful gift.
The “Uninvited Guest” brought unspeakable joy to the Shepherds that night.
.Brought a message of love and peace they were all waiting for.
