ഒട്ടേറെ സാമൂഹിക പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക്കയ്യയച്ച് സഹായമെത്തിച്ച ആദ്യകാല മലയാളി വ്യവസായിയാണു കുര്യന്‍ ചാക്കോ. ഏതാനും മാസമായി രോഗബാധിതനായിരുന്നു.
ചെങ്ങന്നൂര്‍ സ്വദേശിയായ കുര്യന്‍ ചാക്കോ എഴുപതുകളുടെ തുടക്കത്തില്‍ വിദ്യാര്‍ഥിയായാണു അമേരിക്കയിലെത്തിയത്. ഗരാജിലും മറ്റും ജോലി ചെയ്ത ആദ്യകാല അനുഭവങ്ങള്‍ അദ്ധേഹം പങ്കു വയ്ക്കുമായിരുന്നുവെന്നു സുഹ്രുത്ത് സി. തോമസ് അനുസ്മരിക്കുന്നു
പഠനാനന്തരം ഒരു ഡയമണ്ട് സ്റ്റോറില്‍ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായി. പിന്നീട് അത് സ്വന്തമായി വാങ്ങി. അതിനു പുറമെ കണ്‍സ്റ്റ്രക്ഷന്‍, എക്സ്പോര്‍ട്ട്, ഉന്നത നിലവാരത്തിലുള്ള ഇന്ത്യന്‍ ഹോട്ടല്‍ തുടങ്ങിവ ആരംഭിച്ചു.
വെസ്റ്റ്ചെസ്റ്ററിലായിരുന്നു താമസം. ഭാര്യ ഏതാനും വര്‍ഷം മുന്‍പ് മരിച്ചു. ഒരു പുത്രി ഫിലഡല്ഫിയയിലും മറ്റൊരു പുത്രി ന്യു ജെഴ്സിയിലെ വാറനിലും താമസിക്കുന്നു.
ന്യു യോര്‍ക്ക് ക്വീന്‍സിലെ കേരള കള്‍ച്ചറല്‍ ഫോറത്തിനുതുടക്കമിട്ടവരില്‍ ഒരാള്‍ മോനി ആയിരുന്നുവെന്നു ഐ.എന്‍.ഒ.സി നേതാവ് ജോര്‍ജ് ഏബ്രഹാം അനുസ്മരിച്ചു. അമേരിക്കന്‍ മലയാളിയുടെ ചരിത്രം എഴുതിയാല്‍ അതില്‍ മോനിയുടെ പേരും ഉണ്ടാവുമെന്നും ജോര്‍ജ് ഏബ്രഹാം ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി
ആദ്യകാലങ്ങളിലെ ഉറ്റ സൗഹ്രുദം ന്യു ജെഴ്സിയിലെ വ്യവസായി ദിലീപ് വര്‍ഗീസ് അനുസ്മരിക്കുന്നു.
നല്ല കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ഇത്രയേറെ കയ്യയച്ച് സഹായിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള മറ്റൊരാളില്ലെന്നു മുന്‍ ടീനെക്ക് മേയര്‍ ജോണ്‍ ഏബ്രഹാം അനുസ്മരിച്ചു. എന്നാല്‍ മിക്കവരും അതു മറന്നതായാണു പിന്നീട് കണ്ടത്. മോനിയുടെ വേര്‍പാട് ഏരെ ദുഖകരമാണെന്നദ്ധേഹം പറഞ്ഞു.
മോനിയുടെ ചരമത്തില്‍ വേള്‍ഡ് മലയാളി കൗണ്‍സില്‍ നേതാവ് ആന്‍ഡ്രൂ പാപ്പച്ചന്‍ അനുശോചിച്ചു. ദീര്‍ഘകാലത്തെ സൗഹ്രുദ ബന്ധം അദ്ധേഹം അനുസ്മരിച്ചു

Moni died on Monday, the 6th of August, 2018 at his house
After a major illness at his house.

Entertained his friends by grand dinners, hotel rooms and
By famous American artists. He made generous contributions
To social and political leaders and their causes.
A few months back, he lost his dear wife, Ammini. He is survived
By his daughters , Sophie and Sylvie.
