ടെക്‌സസില്‍ പൗരന്മാരല്ലാത്ത 95000 പേര് വോട്ടര്‍ പട്ടികയില്‍- 58000 പേര് വോട്ട് ചെയ്‌തെന്ന്

ടെക്‌സസ്: അമേരിക്കന്‍ പൗരന്മാര്‍ക്ക് മാത്രം വോട്ടവകാശം എന്നിരിക്കെ പൗരന്മാരല്ലാത്ത 95000 പേരെ വോട്ടര്‍ പട്ടികയില്‍ കണ്ടെത്തിയതായി ടെക്‌സസ് സെക്രട്ടറി ഓഫ് സ്റ്റേറ്റ് ഡേവിഡ് വിറ്റ് ലി അറിയിച്ചു. ജനുവരി 25 വെള്ളിയാഴ്ചയാണ് ഇതു സംബന്ധിച്ചു വിവരങ്ങള്‍ സെക്രട്ടറി വെളിപ്പെടുത്തിയത്.
ഒരു വര്‍ഷം നീണ്ടു നിന്ന പരിശോധനകള്‍ക്കുശേഷമാണ് അനധികൃതമായി 95000 പേര് വോട്ടര്‍ പട്ടികയില്‍ കടന്നു കൂടിയതായും, ഇതില്‍ 58000 പേര് വോട്ടവകാശം ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്തിയതായും സെക്രട്ടറി വെളിപ്പെടുത്തിയത്.
1996 മുതല്‍ 2018 വരെയുള്ള കാലഘട്ടത്തിലാണ് വോട്ടര്‍ പട്ടികയില്‍ പൗരന്മാരാല്ലാത്തവര്‍ റജിസ്റ്റര്‍ ചെയ്തത്.
പൗരന്മാരല്ലാത്തവരുടെ പേരുകള്‍ ടെക്‌സസ് അറ്റോര്‍ണി ജനറല്‍ ഓഫിസിലേക്കു അയച്ചു കൊടുത്തതായും സെക്രട്ടറി കൂട്ടിച്ചേര്‍ത്തു.
നിയമവിരുദ്ധമായി വോട്ടര്‍ പട്ടികയില്‍ കടന്നു കൂടിയവര്‍ ജനാധിപത്യത്തിനു ഭീഷിണിയാണെന്നും ഇത്തരക്കാരെ കണ്ടെത്തി നിയമത്തിനു മുന്നില്‍ കൊണ്ടുവരുമെന്നും അറ്റോര്‍ണി ജനറല്‍ കെന്‍ പാക്‌സടണ്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.
നിയമ വിരുദ്ധമായി വോട്ടര്‍ പട്ടികയില്‍ പേര് ചേര്‍ക്കുന്നതും, സമ്മതിദാനാവകാശം ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതും 20 വര്‍ഷം വരെ തടവ് ലഭിക്കാവുന്ന കുറ്റമാണ്.
ഗ്രാന്റ് പ്രറേറിയിലുള്ള റോസ് മറിയ ഒര്‍ട്ടേഗ എന്ന യുവതിക്ക് ഗ്രീന്‍ കാര്‍ഡ് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നിട്ടും, പൗരത്വമില്ലാതെ വോട്ടര്‍ പട്ടികയില്‍ വ്യാജമായി പേര് ചേര്‍ത്തതിന് 8 വര്‍ഷം തടവ് ശിക്ഷ ലഭിച്ചതു ദേശീയ തലത്തില്‍ വാര്‍ത്ത നേടിയിരുന്നു.

Question One: Just this week President Trump claimed that voter fraud is rampant in Texas, where he claimed over 50,000 non-citizens have voted, and “especially” in California. What evidence does Mr. Spakovsky believe there is of widespread voter fraud in Texas (which already has a strict voter identification law, by the way) or California?
Correct Answer: None. President Trump had parroted a Fox News segment about a statement from TX Attorney General Paxton that 58,000 non-citizens may have voted since 1996. This claim was immediately verified as false by several Texas newspapers, journalists familiar with Texas voting law, and political scientists, who have repeatedly shown that voter impersonation fraud is nearly non-existent.
