Dr. Philip K. Philip, 77, a much-loved radiologist who served our
community for many years at St.
Francis Hospital,
died unexpectedly of a cardiac arrest on January 29, 2019 at his residence in
Hopewell Jct., NY.
Born in Kerala, India on May 18, 1941, he was the
son of Dr. K. P. Philip and Kunjunamma (Varghese) Philip. Dr. Philip graduated
from Kasturba Medical
College in Manipal, India
in 1965. He then continued his residency and post graduate studies in radiology
at Albany Medical
Center while also serving as an
Associate Professor at Albany
Medical College.
Dr. Philip moved to Hopewell Jct., NY in 1985 to join Radiology Associates of
St. Francis Hospital as an interventional radiologist. He retired from St. Francis
Hospital in 2005, but after some time,
he resumed his life’s calling as a radiologist for the New State Correctional
Facilities. He was a practicing physician to his last day, as he would have
wanted. He served as the President of the Association of Physicians and
Dentists of Mar Thoma Church for 2 years. He was a member of the Church of the
Resurrection in Hopewell Junction.
On December 26, 1966 Dr. Philip married Ansu (John) Philip in Kerala, India
who survives at home. He is also survived by his two sons, Ashwin K. Philips
and John K. Philip; his son-in-law, Dr. Ron E. Lieberman; his grandson, Nikhil
K. Philip; his five sisters, Annie Varkey, Sosamma James, Daisy Thomas, Rebecca
Philip, and Elizabeth Paulose; and his seven nieces and eleven nephews. He was
predeceased by his daughter, Dr. Sneha Anne Philip Lieberman, who died on
September 11, 2001 at the World
Trade Center;
his two sisters, Sara Pothen and Rachael Eapen; his one niece and two nephews.
