‘Only Indian National Congress party can provide sustained development with security and harmony’ said Pratap Singh Bajwa who was addressing a gathering organized by the Punjab Chapter of Indian National Overseas Congress (I), USA at Waterbury, Connecticut.  In return, the Non-Resident Punjabis hailed their leader as truly experienced, professional and a fearless fighter and told him that they have pinned their aspirations and hopes in his leadership.  They said that they were all fired-up and ready to assist him at his call to elect Congress candidates in the forthcoming national election and ultimately to power in Punjab in itself, saidHarbachan Singh, the Acting General Secretary of the Indian National Overseas Congress (I) USA.  He welcomed Mr. Bajwa as the highest ranking Congress leader from Punjab to an official gala reception event organized by the Punjab Chapter of INOC(I) under its President, Tejinder Singh Gill on Saturday evening June 8, 2013.

To a thunderous welcome grand entry performed by dholl and Bhangra dancers, he was greeted by the cheerful crowd of over 500 guests at the beautiful and spreading Coco Key water Resort in Connecticut owned by the President of the Punjab Chapter of INOC(I) Tejinder Singh Gill some 90 miles away from New York city center.
   
Mohinder Singh Gilzian,Vice President of INOC( I), as emcee in his welcome remarks,  traced the glorious background of Mr. Bajwaji and his family and highlighted the dismal condition of Punjab under the current government.  After having recognized the VIPs present, he introduced T.J. SinghGill who emphasized the dire need for the Congress to come back to power and save the Punjab state from chaos and said that only the Congress Party under Bajwaji was able to do it. 

Mr. T.J. Gill then requested Partap Singh Bajwaji to honor the three heads of the newly Punjab Chapter wings,SukhjinderSingh Mahal(Maryland),  Mr. Sarbjit Singh Mann (California) Mr. Satish Sharma(  New York ). Bajwaji also honored the various Punjab Chapter officials.

George Abraham, President of INOC I, spoke on the valuable contribution of Punjab to India and said that the state with less than seven percent of the population of India had enormous influence on the country through its culture and its “food basket”.  He also highlighted the recent achievements of INOC( I)  under his leadership.  He praised the excellent work of Bajwaji and wished him all success.

ShudhParkash Singh, Sr. Vice President, recounted the success of “Chalo Punjab” initiative which he led last year to Punjab of a large group of enthusiasts and assured him that the same group was ready to march to his bid and assist for the forthcoming LokSabha elections.

Former President of the Punjab Chapter Phuman Singh, Executive Committee member Ravi Chopra and Himmat Singh Sarpanch Singh also spoke.

Partap Singh Bajwa enthralled the audience no sooner than he took to the rostrum and began his speech which was full of salient facts and figures.  He recalled how mistakes or inaction of inept leaders of the past had caused the destiny of Punjab to suffer.  Mistakes by one bad term of a leadership control could not be undone even in the ensuing twenty-five years of good governance. “That’s why we cannot afford to elect bad representatives”, he declared.  After elaborating at length on the negative practices and policies of the current government in Punjab, he drove home the point that clean and fair elections are a pre-condition for the future and voters must be able to cast their votes without fear or undue influence.  He expressed confidence in the will and capacity of Congress Punjabis to bring backstheir Party to power and restore the badly eroded confidence of the people and he did not underestimate the role of the NRIs in this regard by any means.
