എന്റെ കത്തോലിക്ക ഞാനും ഒരു കത്തോലിക്കനാ. ഞാൻ അമേരിക്കയിൽ വന്നാപ്പോൾ നാല് കാലിൽ നിലക്കുമായിരുന്നു എന്നാൽ ഇപ്പോൾ രണ്ടു കാലിൽ നിക്കാൻ പാടുപെടുകയും കയ്യ് വിറക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. എന്റെമോനെ ഒരു കനാനയാ പാരമ്പര്യത്തിൽ നിന്ന് വരുന്ന പെണ്ണിനെ കൊണ്ടേ കല്യാണം കഴിപ്പിക്കു എന്ന പിടിവാശിയിൽ ആയിരുന്നു ഞാൻ .എന്നാൽ എന്റെ മോൻ നാല് കാലേൽ നില്ക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ സംഗതി മാറി. " ഡാഡു ഷട്ട് യൂർ മൗത്ത്. ദിസ്‌ ഈസ്‌ അമേരിക്ക ഇറ്റ്‌ ഈസ്‌ നോട്ട് കേരള. ഐ യാം ഗൊഇങ്ങ് ടൂ മാറി ഹൂ എവർ ഐ ലൈക്ക്. ഇറ്റ്‌ ഈസ്‌ മൈ ലൈഫ് .." ഇത് കഴിഞ്ഞു ഒരാഴ്ച കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല അവൻ ഒരു ഇരൂനൂറ്റി അൻപതു പൗണ്ടും പിന്നെ അതിനു പറ്റിയ എല്ലാ സാധനവും ഉള്ള ഒരു കറുത്ത മഹാ മേരു പർവ്വതവുമായി വീട്ടിൽ എത്തി. ഞാൻ രണ്ടാം നിലയുടെ മുറിയിലേക്ക് വലിഞ്ഞു. രണ്ടുംകൂടെ താഴെയിരുന്നു എന്റെ ജാക്ക് ദാനിയേൽ മുഴുവൻ കുടിച്ച് തീർത്തതും പോര പുര കീഴ്മേൽ മറിച്ചു വച്ച്. എനിക്ക് ചിന്തിച്ചിട്ട്‌ ഒരു പിടിയും കിട്ടിയില്ല എന്റെ കില്ലാരി പോലയുള്ള ചെറുക്കൻ എങ്ങനെ ഈ ആനയുടെ കയ്യിൽ പെട്ടെന്ന്. എന്റെ ചെറുപ്പത്തിൽ അപ്പന്റെ കൂടെ കോടനാട് ആനപിടിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് പോയപ്പം ആന പുറത്തു കേറണം എന്ന് ഒരു ആഗ്രഹം പ്രകടിപ്പിചെന്നല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊരു ദോഷവും ആർക്കും ചെയ്യാതെ ജാക്ക്ദാനിയേൽ കഴിച്ചു സ്വസ്ഥമായി നടന്ന ഒരു മനുഷ്യനാണ്. അവസാനം അന്നത്തെ ആ ചെറിയ ആഗ്രഹം വളർന്നു നമ്മളുടെ പൂർവികർ കാത്തു സൂക്ഷിച്ചുവന്ന സർവ്വ ആചാരങ്ങളെയും തകർത്ത് ഈ കറമ്പി ആനയിൽ അവസാനിക്കും എന്നും ഒരിക്കലും വിചാരിച്ചില്ല. ഇപ്പോൾ ആ പഴകി ദ്രവിച്ച ആചാരങ്ങളെ മുറുകെ പിടിച്ചു, സ്വയം നാറി ഇവിടെ കുത്തി ഇരുന്നാപ്പോലാണ് കത്തോലിക്കൻ എഴുതിയത് വായിച്ചത്. നമ്മള് സ്വയം നാരിയിട്ടു മറ്റുള്ളവർ നാറ്റിച്ചു എന്ന് പറയുന്നതിൽ എന്ത് ന്യായം ? കത്തോലിക്കയിലെ പാതിരിമാരും വഴിതെറ്റി. 'രതിനിർവേദം' ബൈബിൾ വായിച്ചു മുട്ടിന്മേൽ നിന്ന് ക്രുബാന ചോല്ലുകയല്ലേ? എല്ലാം തകർന്നു ചേട്ടാ എല്ലാം തകർന്നു !

Knanaya Church is going through some challenges here. I am not a member of the church. It is better to let the church members sort out the issues in the church. As a concerned well-wisher and Christian Brother, I like to point out certain social and theological issues involved here. Hope this will only help solve the problem. The theology of separation is greatly misunderstood in the church. In the reformed churches also this theology is causing problems. Church is withdrawing in to isolation, and set it apart from the society. Jesus has left us on this earth to reflect the character of Jesus to others, and thus attract others to become disciples of Jesus. If we are in an isolation mood how is this possible? It is true that in the Old Testament, God asked the Israel to be a group different from the other races. They were the Chosen People. They were chosen to reflect God’s nature to others. If they were freely allowed to mingle with non-Israelites in marriage relationship, soon the whole race would have dissolved into other races and their identity lost. God said, even if Israel were like sand of the ocean, only a remnant will be left to keep the identity. So the ten tribes that the Assyrians took captive, they melted in to other races to be a blessing for others. God accomplished this through war and the resultant movement of people. The Israelites were the race that had the heavenly Manna and blessing of Abraham in each and every cell(DNA) in their body. When they mixed with other races this blessing was transferred to other races. The same thing happened when Cannai Thomas who was a Jew mixed with the people of Kerala and became Knanaya Community and the Syrian Christians. If God could allow Cannai Thomas to dissolve into the Knanaya community, and they are no more, is it not a contradiction that we boast of that heritage and set us apart because a little Jewish blood is flowing through our veins. There is no place for such pride in us in Jesu’s plan for the mankind. Just like Israelites, the New Testament Israel is chosen to be a blessing for others by living among the other races, and not to keep isolated well above others. All along Bible we can see people from other races arranged beautifully in to the genealogy of Jesus Christ. People generally get carried away by their own self-importance in their culture and heritage. When Israelites boasted of them being the Chosen people, God scattered them among Gentiles to mix with other races, and to be a blessing for others. This happened all along in history in the Assyrian diaspora, Babylonian diaspora, and in the AD 70 Roman diaspora. God’s plan for mankind is full of heavenly love and care. Deuteronomy: 21:10-14. When you go out to war against your enemies, and the Lord your God hands them to you and you take them captive, suppose you see among the captives a beautiful women whom you desire and want to marry, and so you bring her home to your house: she shall shave her head, pare her nails, discard her captives garb, and shall remain in your house a full month, mourning for her father and mother; after that you may go in to her and be her husband, and she shall be your wife. But if you are not satisfied with her, you shall let her go free and not sell her for money. You must not treat her as a slave, since you have dishonored her. The above is God’s plan to transfer the influence of the Manna and the DNA in Israelites to other races. So I do not think it is God’s plan that the community set it apart always. There was a time for its separation to tell the history and tradition to the coming generation. Since this is close to the end time, our focus must be different- the mission of Jesus entrusted to us. Catholic Church will find it difficult to adopt endogamy as it is not in tune with out Christian faith. Instead of creating division in the community, the members might settle their differences and move along and prosper.
