ഹൂസ്റ്റണ്‍ : ഹൂസ്റ്റണ്‍ ബെന്‍ റ്റോബ് ആശുപത്രി ഫാര്‍മസിസ്റ്റിനെ വെടിവെച്ചു കൊലപ്പെടുത്തിയത് അതേ ഫാര്‍മസിയിലെ ടെക്ക് ആയി പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്ന ജോര്‍ജ്ജ് വള്ളിക്കാപ്പിലാണെന്ന് ബുധനാഴ്ച ഹാരിസ് മെഡിക്കല്‍ എക്‌സാമിനറെ ഉദ്ധരിച്ചു ഹൂസ്റ്റണ്‍ പോലീസ് വക്താവ് ജോണ്‍ കാനന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. വനിതാ ഫാര്‍മസിസ്റ്റിനെ കുറിച്ചുള്ള വിവരങ്ങള്‍ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുവാന്‍ പോലീസ് വിസമ്മതിച്ചു.

കോട്ടയം ഈരാറ്റുപേട്ട തീക്കോയി വെള്ളിക്കാപ്പില്‍ കുടുംബാംഗമായ ജോര്‍ജ് തോമസ്(58) പത്തുവര്‍ഷത്തിലധികമായി ഇവിടെ ഫാര്‍മസി ടെക്കായി പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നു. ഹൂസ്റ്റണ്‍ സെന്റ് ജോസഫ് സീറോ മലബാര്‍ ഫെറോന കാത്തലിക് ചര്‍ച്ച് ഇടവകാംഗമാണ്.

കൊലചെയ്യപ്പെട്ട ഫാര്‍മസിസ്റ്റുമായി അടുത്തു ഇടപഴകാന്‍ ശ്രമിച്ചിരുന്നതായും, ഇത് നിഷേധിക്കപ്പെട്ടതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്നുണ്ടായ നിരാശയും, പകയുമാണ് ജോര്‍ജ്ജിനെ ഇതിന് പ്രേരിപ്പിച്ചതെന്നാണ് പ്രാഥമിക അന്വേഷണത്തില്‍ നിന്നും തെളിയുന്നതെന്ന് പോലീസ് വക്താവ് ജോണ്‍ കാനന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

'രണ്ടു കുടുംബങ്ങളാണു വേദനിക്കുന്നത്. ഞങ്ങള്‍ തികച്ചും കണ്‍ഫ്യൂസ്ഡ് ആണു. പലതിനും ഇനിയും ഉത്തരം കണ്ടെത്തേണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു-വള്ളിക്കാപ്പിലിന്റെ വസതിയിലെത്തിയ എ.ബി.സി. ലേഖകനോടു പുത്രന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.
മരിച്ച രണ്ടു പേരെപറ്റിയും ഒരു പരാതിയും ഇതെ വരെ ഉണ്ടായിട്ടില്ലെന്ന് ആശുപത്രി വക്താവ അറിയിച്ചു.

ഈ വര്‍ഷം മെയ് ആദ്യം കാലിഫോര്‍ണിയാ യൂണിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റിയില്‍ ഇതിനു സമാനമായ ഒരു സംഭവം നടന്നിരുന്നു. പ്രേമാഭ്യര്‍ത്ഥന നിരസിച്ച സ്ത്രീയോട് പ്രതികാരം തീര്‍ക്കുന്നതിന് ആറുപേരെ വെടിവെച്ചു കൊലപ്പെടുത്തിയശേഷം തോക്ക്ധാരി എലിയറ്റ് റോജര്‍ സ്വയം നിറയൊഴിച്ചു ആത്മഹത്യ ചെയ്യുകയായിരുന്നു.

സ്ത്രീകള്‍ക്കെതിരെ ഇത്തരം പ്രകോപനങ്ങള്‍ ഉണ്ടാകുമ്പോള്‍ യഥാക്രമം കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ മനസിലാക്കി ഉത്തരവാദിത്വപ്പെട്ടവരെ അറിയിക്കുവാന്‍ താമസിക്കുന്നതാണ് ഇത്തരം ദൗര്‍ഭാഗ്യകരമായ സംഭവങ്ങള്‍ ആവര്‍ത്തിക്കപ്പെടുന്നതെന്ന് ഫാമിലി ക്രൈസിസ് ആന്റ് കൗണ്‍സിലിംഗ് സെന്റര്‍ ഡയറക്ടര്‍ ജൂഡി കോക്‌സ് പറഞ്ഞു. സ്ത്രീകളോട് പുരുഷന്മാരും, പുരുഷന്മാരോട് സ്ത്രീകളും എങ്ങനെ പെരുമാറണമെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു മനസ്സിലാക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള പഠനക്ലാസ്സുകള്‍ സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുന്നതെന്നും ജൂഡി പറഞ്ഞു.

വെടിയേറ്റ് മരിച്ച ഫാര്‍മസിസ്റ്റിന്റെ പേര്‍ വ്യാഴാഴ്ച ഓട്ടോപ്‌സി നടത്തിയതിനുശേഷമേ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുകയുള്ളൂ എന്ന് പോലീസ് പറഞ്ഞു. കൂടുതല്‍ അന്വേഷണങ്ങള്‍ നടക്കുകയാണെന്നും പോലീസ് പറഞ്ഞു.

At Vallikappil's Southwest Houston home, his son answered the door to ABC reporter.

"We are 2 families suffering here. We're confused. We want answers. We don't have any answers," Tom Vallikappil said. 

Ben Taub officials say they have no record of complaints against either the suspect or the victim. However they are conducting an internal review to see if there were any warnings.

The Harris County Medical Examiner has released the identity of the man police say triggered chaos Wednesday at Ben Taub Hospital. Investigators say pharmacy tech George Vallikappill pulled a gun, killed a co-worker and then took his own life, all inside the outpatient pharmacy.

Police are still investigating but offered the outline of a possible motive.

"We're getting some information that the male had been trying to get in a relationship with the female in recent days," said Houston Police spokesperson John Cannon.

That theme of rejection turning to anger and violence is repeated over and over. Back in May, Elliot Rodger killed six people and himself, at the University of California at Santa Barbara. He claimed he was seeking revenge on all the women who had rejected him in his life.

That tragedy sparked a movement, the "yes all women campaign," where women are speaking out on social media, about their experiences ranging from times they've felt threatened for turning down a man's advances, to the challenges of cat calls and feeling in danger on the street.

"It should be brought into the limelight much more," said Judy Cox, director of the Family Crisis and Counseling Center in Humble.

Cox says she had one thought when she heard about the events at Ben Taub: "Another one, this has happened again."

The center deals with victims of domestic violence, but also more subtle signs of aggression, before police are likely to get involved.

"Every time that he said or did something they put a date in it and they jot down what he said so when, and if, something major happens, she has a history," said Cox.

But experts say we have to move beyond a case-by-case basis to start a broader conversation, gradually changing mindsets to one day prevent tragedy.

"How do we treat women, how do we treat men and if we can get that across maybe we wouldn't have such a problem," said Cox. "Because everyone should respect each other."

No matter what comes next in the Ben Taub investigation, that's a message worth spreading.
