പ്രതിമ (ഖലീല്‍ജിബ്രാന്‍ -ഭാഷാന്തരം: ജി. പുത്തന്‍കുരിശ്‌)

അതികുശലനായ ഒരു ശില്‌പിയാല്‍ നിര്‍മ്മിക്കപ്പെട്ടഒരു പ്രതിമയുള്ള
മനുഷ്യന്‍, പണ്ട്‌ മലകളുടെ ഇടയില്‍വസിച്ചിരുന്നു. ആ പ്രതിമ
അയാളാല്‍ ശ്രദ്ധിയ്‌ക്കപ്പെടാതെ വാതിലിനടുത്ത്‌ തലകീഴായ്‌,
കിടന്നിരുന്നു.ഒരിയ്‌ക്കല്‍ പട്ടണത്തില്‍ താമസിക്കുന്നവനും
അറിവും ഉള്ള ഒരു മനുഷ്യന്‍ അതുവഴികടന്നു പോയപ്പോള്‍
ആ പ്രതിമകാണുകയും അത്‌ വില്‌ക്കുന്നോഎന്ന്‌ ചോദിയ്‌ക്കുകയും
ചെയ്‌തു. ഇത്‌കേട്ട്‌ അതിന്റെ ഉടമസ്ഥന്‍ ചിരച്ചുകൊണ്ടു പറഞ്ഞു,
`ഇത്ര മങ്ങിയതുംവൃത്തികെട്ടതുമായ ഈ കല്ല്‌ ആരുവാങ്ങിക്കുമെന്ന്‌
ചിന്തിയ്‌ക്കുകയായിരുന്നു?' ഞാന്‍ നിനക്ക്‌ ഒരുവെള്ളിനാണയം തരാം
പട്ടണത്തില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള മനുഷ്യന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു, ഇത്‌കേട്ട്‌ ഉടമസ്ഥന്‍
ആത്ഭുതപ്പെടുകയുംആഹ്ലാദിക്കുകയുംചെയ്‌തു.പ്രതിമഉടനെഒരു
ആനയുടെ പുറത്ത്‌കയറ്റി പട്ടണത്തിലേയ്‌ക്ക്‌മാറ്റുകയുംചെയ്‌തു.
വളരെമാസങ്ങള്‍ക്ക്‌ശേഷംമലകളുടെഇടയില്‍താമസിയ്‌ക്കുന്ന
മനുഷ്യന്‍,പട്ടണത്തിലുള്ള ഒരുകടയില്‍ കയറിയപ്പോള്‍ അല്ലയോ
ലോകമെ, രണ്ടുവെള്ളിക്കാശുതന്ന്‌, ഒരുരാജശില്‌പി നിര്‍മ്മിച്ച അതി
വിശിഷ്‌ടമായ ഈ പ്രതിമകണ്ടാലും എന്ന്‌ കരഞ്ഞുകൂവി
വിളിയ്‌ക്കുന്ന ഒരു മനുഷ്യനെ കാണാന്‍ ഇടയായി.ഉടനെതന്നെ
രണ്ടു വെള്ളിക്കാശുകൊടുത്ത്‌ ആ കടയില്‍ കയറി താന്‍ ഒരു
വെള്ളിനാണയത്തിന്‌ പണ്ടു വിറ്റപ്രതിമ അയാള്‍ കാണുകയുണ്ടായി.
The Statue

Once there lived a man among the hills that possessed a statue wrought by an ancient master. It lay at his door face downward and he was not mindful of it.
One day there passed by his house a man from the city, a man of knowledge, and seeing the statue he inquired of the owner if he would sell it.
The owner laughed and said, “And prays who would want to buy that dull and dirty stone?”
The man from the city said, “I will give you this piece of silver for it.”
And the other man was astonished and delighted
The statue was removed to the city, upon the back of an elephant. And after many moons the man from the hills visited a shop and a man with a loud voice was crying, “Come ye in all the world. Only two sliver pieces to look upon this most marvelous work of a master.”
Thereupon the man from the hills paid two silver pieces and entered the shop to see the statue that he himself had sold for one piece of silver.
മനുഷ്യന്‍, പണ്ട്‌ മലകളുടെ ഇടയില്‍വസിച്ചിരുന്നു. ആ പ്രതിമ
