AFL-CIO Calls on Members to Defend Occupy Wall Street

Major Union Calls on NY Area Members to Spend Night in Solidarity with OWS Encampment Against Bloomberg’s Planned Attack

In a statement emailed at approximately 8pm EST, the AFL-CIO called on its NY area members to travel to the Occupy Wall Street encampment in lower Manhattan’s Zuccotti Square and stand on guard all night against a planned eviction and police attack on the popular movement to be carried out on the orders of Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The AFL-CIO call to support an organic movement unaffiliated with union may be unprecedented in the past half century of the union’s history and represents the powerful popularity that the Occupy Wall Street movement has won among U.S. workers. In a poll released by Time today, Occupy Wall Street earned the approval of 54% of respondents, higher approval than for President Obama or the Tea Party.

യു.എസ്. അധികൃതര്‍ ബുധനാഴ്ച നാല് സമരക്കാരെ കൂടി അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തു. അമേരിക്കയിലെ കുത്തക ബാങ്കായ ജെ.പി. മോര്‍ഗന്‍ ചേസിനു മുന്നില്‍ റാലി നടത്തിയവരാണ് അറസ്റ്റിലായത്. ബോസ്റ്റണ്‍ നഗരത്തില്‍ 150-ഓളം പേര്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം അറസ്റ്റിലായിരുന്നു. അതിനിടെ, സമരത്തെ ആദ്യഘട്ടത്തില്‍ അവഗണിച്ച അമേരിക്കന്‍ മാധ്യമങ്ങളില്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍ പ്രക്ഷോഭ വാര്‍ത്തകളുടെ എണ്ണം കൂടിത്തുടങ്ങി.

New York Mayor Bloomberg and the policw have announced that the first thing in the morning, they are going to clear Zucotti Park “to clean it up” and will allow protesters back in but not with sleeping bags, food, etc.—essentially ending the Occupation. The protesters of course won’t leave and will be arrested.
