NEW YORK CITY SUBWAY( Poem: Abdul Punnayurkulam)
In my sleep, I see you at midnight, impatiently
waiting for a train at the subway station.
A shivering, cold breeze whispers in your ears and nose.
The platform is almost empty and silent
The silence weaves a fearful feeling.
When light flashes on the rail,
it seems to creep like a silver snake.
Somewhere, narrow, deep in the tunnel, lantern lights dim,
and the train stops ...

As the train stops at each station, it gradually empties ...
Now you are alone!

A group of punks enter the train with loud music
Their red-arrow eyes talking dirty words,
their breath diffusing smelly spirits.
They are dressed as ancient Roman martials
with golden ornaments.

In my sleep, I feel your heart beating faster. ..
You close your eyes and start reciting the rosary
For a moment, you feel a piece of serenity ...
You slowly open your eyes;
the rowdies are all gone!

Miles away, your loved one was reciting the rosary beads, too.
