പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുകയും ചെയ്‌ത ആത്മീയാചാര്യന്‍ ബിഷപ്പ് റൈറ്റ് റവ.ഡോ. ജോര്ജ്
നൈനാന്‍ (81) കാലം ചെയ്‌തു. ശനിയാഴ്‌ച ഒരു വിവാഹത്തിനു കാര്‍മികത്വം വഹിച്ച തിരുമേനി
രാത്രി അസ്വസ്ഥത പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുകയും തുടര്‍ന്ന്‌ ആശുപത്രയില്‍
പ്രവേശിപ്പിക്കുകയുമായിരുന്നു. ഞായറാഴ്‌ച പകല്‍ മൂന്നുമണിയോടെയാണ്‌ ആ ധന്യജീവിതം
വിടവാങ്ങിയത്‌.
ചര്‍ച്ച്‌ ഓഫ്‌ നോര്‍ത്ത്‌ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ നാസിക്‌ രൂപതാധ്യക്ഷനായി വിരമിച്ച അദ്ധേഹം ഏറെ നാളായി വാലി കേട്ടേജിലാണ്‌ താമസം. അമേരിക്കന്‍ മലയാളികളുടെ എല്ലാ നല്ല കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ക്കും തുണയായി നിന്ന തിരുമേനി ലാളിത്യവും ഉറച്ച വിശ്വാസവും മുഖമുദ്രയാക്കി. മറ്റുള്ളവരെ ഉപദേശിക്കുന്നതിനു പകരം ജീവിതം തന്നെ മാതൃകയാക്കി പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ച അദ്ദേഹം സ്വന്തം പ്രവര്‍ത്തന മണ്‌ഡലത്തേയും വിമര്‍ശനാത്മകമായ രീതിയില്‍ നോക്കിക്കണ്ടു. ബിഷപ്പുമാര്‍ അരമനയില്‍ വസിക്കുകയും വലിയ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങള്‍ കെട്ടിപ്പൊക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുമ്പോള്‍ ജനത്തിനു വേണ്ടിയുള്ള പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളിലാണ്‌ അദ്ദേഹം ശ്രദ്ധ വെച്ചത്‌.
ക്രിസ്‌ത്യന്‍ കോണ്‍ഫറന്‍സ്‌ ഓഫ്‌ ഏഷ്യയുടെ അസോസിയേറ്റ്‌ ജനറല്‍ സെക്രട്ടറിയും, അര്‍ബന്‍ റൂറല്‍ മിഷന്റെ എക്‌സിക്യൂട്ടീവ്‌ സെക്രട്ടറിയായും അദ്ദേഹം പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചു. മുംബൈയില്‍ അര്‍ബന്‍ ഇന്‍ഡസ്‌ട്രിയല്‍ ലീഗ്‌ ഫോര്‍ ഡവലപ്‌മെന്റിന്റെ ഡയറക്‌ടറായും പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചു.
ഒറീസയില്‍ ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയന്‍ മിഷണറി ഗ്രെഹാം സ്റ്റെയിന്‍സും മക്കളും കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്ന്‌ ശക്തമായ നിലപാടെടുത്ത അദ്ദേഹത്തിനെതിരേ 1999 -കാലത്ത്‌ പോലീസില്‍ നിന്നു നിരന്തരമായ ഉപദ്രവങ്ങളുണ്ടായി. എങ്കിലും ക്രിസ്‌തുവില്‍ ആശ്രയിച്ച്‌ അദ്ദേഹം നിലപാടുകളില്‍ ഉറച്ചുനിന്നു.
ക്രൈസ്‌തവ ഐക്യത്തിന്റെ വക്താവായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം. അതോടൊപ്പം തന്നെ ഏതൊരു സമൂഹവുമായും സ്‌നേഹത്തിലും സഹകരണത്തിലും കഴിയുവാന്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തിനുള്ള കഴിവ്‌ വ്യത്യസ്‌തമായിരുന്നു. റോക്ക്‌ലാന്റ്‌ കൗണ്ടിയിലെ മലയാളി സമ്മേളനങ്ങളില്‍ നിറഞ്ഞ സാന്നിധ്യമായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം.
കവിയൂരില്‍ 1934 ഓഗസ്റ്റ്‌ നാലിനു ജനിച്ച അദ്ദേഹം ആലപ്പുഴയിലാണ്‌ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം നടത്തിയത്‌. പിതാവ്‌ യൂറോപ്യന്‍ കമ്പനിയില്‍ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായിരുന്നു. ആലപ്പുഴയില്‍ നിന്നുതന്നെ ഇക്കണോമിക്‌സിലും, പൊളിറ്റിക്കല്‍ സയന്‍സിലും ബിരുദം നേടി.
തുടര്‍ന്ന്‌ ദൈവവിളി കേട്ട്‌ സി.എസ്‌.ഐ സെന്‍ട്രല്‍ ഡയോസിസിന്റെ കീഴിലുള്ള ക്രിസ്‌ത്യന്‍ ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റിയൂട്ട്‌ ഓഫ്‌ ആലപ്പിയില്‍ ചേര്‍ന്നു. 1958-ല്‍ ഒരുവര്‍ഷത്തെ യൂത്ത്‌ ട്രെയിനിംഗിനായി ഡയോസിസ്‌ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ജപ്പാനിലേക്ക്‌ അയച്ചു. തിരിച്ചുവന്ന അദ്ദേഹം ഡയോസിസ്‌ യൂത്ത്‌ സെക്രട്ടറിയായി. പഠനകാലത്ത്‌ സ്റ്റുഡന്റ്‌സ്‌ ക്രിസ്‌ത്യന്‍ മൂവ്‌മെന്റില്‍ സജീവമായിരുന്നു.
അദ്ദേഹവും പത്‌നി റേച്ചലുംകൂടി രൂപംകൊടുത്തതാണ്‌ അഗപ്പെ ഇന്റര്‍നാണല്‍. സ്വത്തിന്റെ ഒരു ഭാഗം മറ്റുള്ളവരെ സഹായിക്കാനായി അവര്‍ മാറ്റിവെച്ചു.
1964-ല്‍ ആണു അദ്ധേഹം ആംഗ്ലിക്കന്‍ കമ്മ്യൂനിയണില്‍ വൈദികനായത്. 1970-ല്‍ ഓക്ലഹോമയില്‍ ഫിലിപ്‌സ് യൂനിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റിയില്‍ ഡോകടറല്‍ പഠനത്തിനു അദ്ധേഹം പത്‌നീ സമേതനായി എത്തി.
മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി വിവിധ സ്ഥലങ്ങളില്‍ സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ച അദ്ധേഹം 1994 മുതല്‍ 99 വരെ നാസിക്ബിഷപ്പായി പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചു. 2004-ല്‍ മക്കള്‍ക്കൊപ്പം കഴിയാന്‍ അമേരിക്കയിലെത്തി.
മൂന്നു മക്കളും കൊച്ചു മക്കളുമുണ്ട്.
ചര്‍ച്ച്‌ ഓഫ്‌ നോര്‍ത്ത്‌ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ നാസിക്‌ രൂപതാധ്യക്ഷനായി വിരമിച്ച അദ്ധേഹം ഏറെ നാളായി വാലി കേട്ടേജിലാണ്‌ താമസം. അമേരിക്കന്‍ മലയാളികളുടെ എല്ലാ നല്ല കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ക്കും തുണയായി നിന്ന തിരുമേനി ലാളിത്യവും ഉറച്ച വിശ്വാസവും മുഖമുദ്രയാക്കി. മറ്റുള്ളവരെ ഉപദേശിക്കുന്നതിനു പകരം ജീവിതം തന്നെ മാതൃകയാക്കി പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ച അദ്ദേഹം സ്വന്തം പ്രവര്‍ത്തന മണ്‌ഡലത്തേയും വിമര്‍ശനാത്മകമായ രീതിയില്‍ നോക്കിക്കണ്ടു. ബിഷപ്പുമാര്‍ അരമനയില്‍ വസിക്കുകയും വലിയ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങള്‍ കെട്ടിപ്പൊക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുമ്പോള്‍ ജനത്തിനു വേണ്ടിയുള്ള പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളിലാണ്‌ അദ്ദേഹം ശ്രദ്ധ വെച്ചത്‌.
ക്രിസ്‌ത്യന്‍ കോണ്‍ഫറന്‍സ്‌ ഓഫ്‌ ഏഷ്യയുടെ അസോസിയേറ്റ്‌ ജനറല്‍ സെക്രട്ടറിയും, അര്‍ബന്‍ റൂറല്‍ മിഷന്റെ എക്‌സിക്യൂട്ടീവ്‌ സെക്രട്ടറിയായും അദ്ദേഹം പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചു. മുംബൈയില്‍ അര്‍ബന്‍ ഇന്‍ഡസ്‌ട്രിയല്‍ ലീഗ്‌ ഫോര്‍ ഡവലപ്‌മെന്റിന്റെ ഡയറക്‌ടറായും പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചു.

ക്രൈസ്‌തവ ഐക്യത്തിന്റെ വക്താവായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം. അതോടൊപ്പം തന്നെ ഏതൊരു സമൂഹവുമായും സ്‌നേഹത്തിലും സഹകരണത്തിലും കഴിയുവാന്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തിനുള്ള കഴിവ്‌ വ്യത്യസ്‌തമായിരുന്നു. റോക്ക്‌ലാന്റ്‌ കൗണ്ടിയിലെ മലയാളി സമ്മേളനങ്ങളില്‍ നിറഞ്ഞ സാന്നിധ്യമായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം.

തുടര്‍ന്ന്‌ ദൈവവിളി കേട്ട്‌ സി.എസ്‌.ഐ സെന്‍ട്രല്‍ ഡയോസിസിന്റെ കീഴിലുള്ള ക്രിസ്‌ത്യന്‍ ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റിയൂട്ട്‌ ഓഫ്‌ ആലപ്പിയില്‍ ചേര്‍ന്നു. 1958-ല്‍ ഒരുവര്‍ഷത്തെ യൂത്ത്‌ ട്രെയിനിംഗിനായി ഡയോസിസ്‌ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ജപ്പാനിലേക്ക്‌ അയച്ചു. തിരിച്ചുവന്ന അദ്ദേഹം ഡയോസിസ്‌ യൂത്ത്‌ സെക്രട്ടറിയായി. പഠനകാലത്ത്‌ സ്റ്റുഡന്റ്‌സ്‌ ക്രിസ്‌ത്യന്‍ മൂവ്‌മെന്റില്‍ സജീവമായിരുന്നു.
അദ്ദേഹവും പത്‌നി റേച്ചലുംകൂടി രൂപംകൊടുത്തതാണ്‌ അഗപ്പെ ഇന്റര്‍നാണല്‍. സ്വത്തിന്റെ ഒരു ഭാഗം മറ്റുള്ളവരെ സഹായിക്കാനായി അവര്‍ മാറ്റിവെച്ചു.

Bishop Ninan was a good speaker and a modern thinker. He always very nice to everybody. Every week I like to see in the Church with a smile. We miss him. Give strength and courage to kouchamma and family.

Bishop George Ninan was so simple and was an accessible person to the Indian community.
He worked with World Council of Churches. He kept that spirit in his retirement life too. Several times we could make use of him in our Ecumenical meetings.
Two years ago, he gave a wonderful Christmas message in the Indian Council of Orthodox Churches, New York. As the present President of the Council Orthodox Churches, may I express the condolences of the Council. Waiting for the details

Bishop Ninan was a model for other bishops to follow. He was full of wisdom, humble, outgoing and helpful to any one who approached him especially for the Indian community here in USA. I join the hundreds in the mourning of the passing of Rev.Dr. George Ninan. Having known him and his family since 1967 when I was a student at Nagpur University and he was Priest in Charge of the prestigious All Saints Cathedral in the city of Nagpur.
It has been a privilege to have maintained a fond relationship and visit him on site during the various ministry roles he had whether it was in Hong Kong, Mumbai, Canada or United States.
He would be remembered as warm and friendly, as an easily accessible individual, an energetic and highly resourceful person ready with wise counsel, very adaptable to cross- cultural challenges, a bold innovator and strategist pursuing justice for the have-nots and marginalized and a ecumenical church statesman. Many have enjoyed multiple blessings because of Bishop Ninan.
Our love and prayers follow the family and friends who dearly miss him!!!

Bishop Ninan was liked by everyone. His messages were simple but profound. All though he had a high stature of a Bishop.....he never showed off. He was friendly and approachable. He loved to visit our home.....Usha used make Goat Biryani and that he throughly enjoyed. He co-started The Meeting Point and magazine which had articles both in English and Malayalam. He was honored invitee to the NJIC Confirmations.
God Bless you Sir. We will truly miss you Man of God.
May the Peace peace which passeth all understanding be with your Family at this time.
