Chellamma Joseph of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at her youngest son’s home surrounded by family. She was 76 years old. Chellamma was born July 17, 1941 in Kerala, India, the third child of seven of the late E. V. Mathew and the late Aleyamma Mathew. She is the beloved wife of the late Mathai M. Joseph; mother of Jossey Joseph and his wife Annamma, Jency Tharakan and her husband Mathew, and Shaji Joseph and his wife Usha; grandmother of Tina Joseph, Tracy Mitman and her husband Eric, Tiby Joseph, Lisa Tharakan, Linda Tharakan, Lynette Tharakan, April Joseph, Alisha Joseph, and Ashwin Joseph; great grandmother of Larissa and Jace. She is also survived by three siblings in India, many nieces and nephews.

Chellamma was born, raised, and educated in Kerala, India. She migrated to the United States in 1985 with her eldest son and daughter meeting up with her husband and youngest son, who had come over in 1984. She took pride in being the best hostess to anyone who came in contact with her. She loved to cook for them and also enjoyed cleaning. Chellamma was a longtime member of Bethel Mar Thoma Church in Philadelphia.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Ascension Mar Thoma Church, 10197 Northeast Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19116. Relatives and friends are also invited to her service on Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. at Ascension Mar Thoma Church, 10197 Northeast Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19116. Her graveside service will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Adams and Ramona Avenues, Philadelphia, PA 19124. Religious services will be conducted by Rev. Saju Chacko from Bethel Mar Thoma Church.
