FOMAA Elections 2012 – An unpleasant reality
The only saving grace of FOMAA elections 2012 is that the elections will not hang around our necks like an albatross for the entire duration of the five day Cruise Convention.
I congratulate the FOMAA executive committee, election commissioners, some of the candidates and the FOMAA leaders and active members for their efforts, support and co-operation to finish the elections in the morning of August 2, 2012.
Yet, the FOMAA elections 2012 continue to hang around our necks as an unpleasant reality, heading towards the second day of cruise convention 2012.
It is very disheartening to see that most of the FOMAA leaders are election-shy and do not like to face an election to the executive committee. The very fact of contesting an election, turns away many capable people from offering their services to FOMAA. May be they don’t like the acrimony, sound and fury of a contest.
This puts FOMAA as a federation at a disadvantage as the organization loses the capable and proven leadership at the Executive Committee. The contradiction is that we often have to put up with the wrong choices.
Some of the regions have seen this as a great danger to FOMAA and took precautions. They made early efforts to interact with leaders and active members at the national level and nominated candidates with proven record and dedication from their region. Those candidates have the whole hearted support of the region and to a larger extent, the support at the national level.
Majority of the candidates are self promoters. Sorry to say this. It is time such self promoters make a comparison of the needs of FOMAA and their ability to lead FOMAA. They should have larger vision for FOMAA, assess the growing demands of FOMAA as a youthful federation, make self evaluation of themselves and see if they are capable to meet with the demands of a young organization.
Each candidate must seek an honest opinion of at least 50 active members of your choice about your own candidature. Their opinions must be considered truthful and confidential. If the opinions are negative, it is time to refrain from the contest and withdraw your candidacy.
The FOMAA active members, in the interest of the organization, must express their opinion honestly and without fear. The present casual and passive trend of the active members do not do any good for the organization and it will only lead to multiplicity of candidates.
It is time to name a spade a spade.
Like in any other election, FOMAA election is also all about winning. Every one needs one vote more than the nearest candidate to win. But it is time for each candidate to evaluate how many votes one needed to win and how many votes one can gather. If you are unsure of the reality, please seek honest opinion from others. One should seek this opinion and accept this without prejudice.
Please avoid an election, save our valuable time and avoid the unpleasant reality.
Losing an election hurts not only you but also all the members of FOMAA family. In FOMAA family everyone is a friend and there are no losers. In FOMAA family we do not like to see any one to lose.
How can we avoid the unpleasant reality of election 2012? I hope and pray that some of you will show the wisdom and understanding to come forward to self evaluate, seek opinions and withdraw from the election arena.
Let us make a pleasant reality the cruise convention at sea 2012 in the Carnival Glory.
