ആര്‍ത്രൈറ്റിസ് മരുന്ന് ഉപയോഗിച്ച ന്യു യോർക്കിലെ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ ഡോക്ടറൂടേ കോവിഡ് ബാധ സുഖപ്പെട്ടു
പ്രസിഡന്റ് ട്രമ്പ് പത്ര സമ്മേളനത്തില്‍ അവകാശപ്പെട്ട പോലെ ഹൈഡ്രൊക്‌സിക്ലോറോക്വിന്‍, അസിത്രോമൈസിന്‍ എന്നിവയുടെ മിശ്രിതം കഴിച്ചിട്ടും രോഗം കൂടിയതല്ലാതെ കുറഞ്ഞില്ലെന്നു കാര്‍ഡിയോളജിസ്റ്റായ ഡോ. പട്ടേല്‍ ട്വീറ്റ് ചെയ്തു. ഒരു വാചകം സംസാരിക്കാന്‍ പോലും പറ്റില്ലായിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ ഈ മരുന്നു ഉപയോഗിച്ച ശേഷം വലിയ മാറ്റം വന്നു. പനി, ചുമ, ശ്വാസതടസം തുടങ്ങിവയായിരുന്നു അസുഖ ലക്ഷണങ്ങള്‍
രണ്ട് ദിവസം കൊണ്ട് പനി പോയി. ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ നിന്ന് ഡിസ്ചാരജ് ചെയ്തു. എന്നാല്‍ ചുമ ഉള്ളതിനാല്‍ സംസാരിക്കാന്‍ ഇപ്പോഴും വിഷമം. 11 ദിവസം മുന്‍പാണു ഡോക്ടര്‍ക്ക് രോഗം ബാധിച്ചത്.

ന്യു യോര്‍ക്കില്‍ നിന്ന് പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കുന്ന ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പത്രം ന്യൂസ് ഇന്ത്യ ടൈംസ്, ദേശി ടോക്ക്, കാലിഫോര്‍ണിയയില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള ഇന്ത്യാ വെസ്റ്റ് തുടങ്ങിയവ അച്ചടി തല്ക്കാലം നിര്‍ത്തി വച്ചു. പ്രസുകള്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നില്ലാത്തതാണു കാരണം.
ഇതേ സമയം, ഗന്ധവും രുചിയും ഇല്ലാതെ വരുന്നതു കോറോണയുടെ ലക്ഷണമാകാമെന്നു വിദഗ്ദര്‍ പറയുന്നു.
സിഗററ്റ് വിപ്പന നിര്‍ത്തണമെന്നു ഡോക്ടര്‍മാരുടെ സംഘടന നിര്‍ദേശിച്ചു. കോവിഡ് ശ്വാസകോശത്തെയാണു ബാധിക്കുന്നതെന്നും പുകവലി കൂടുതല്‍ ദോഷം ചെയ്യുമെന്നും അവര്‍ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടുന്നു.
ന്യൂ യോര്‍ക്ക് സ്റ്റേറ്റിലാണു ലോകത്തിലെ കൊറോണ രോഗികളില്‍ 6 ശതമാനം. 20,000-ല്‍ പരം. അതില്‍ 13,000 ന്യു യോര്‍ക്ക് സിറ്റിയിലാണ്. സിറ്റിയില്‍ മാത്രം 125 പേര്‍ മരിച്ചു. ഒരു സ്‌കൂള്‍ പ്രിന്‍സിപ്പലും ഇതില്‍ പെടുന്നു. സ്റ്റേറ്റിലൊട്ടാകെ 187 പേര്‍.ജനസാന്ദ്രത കൂടുതലുള്ളതിനാല്‍ ന്യു യോര്‍ക്ക് നഗരത്തില്‍ രോഗികളുടേ എണ്ണം ഇനിയും കൂടുമെന്നു വിദഗ്ദര്‍ പറയുന്നു. ഒരാഴ്ചക്കുള്ളില്‍ രോഗം മൂര്‍ദ്ധന്യാവസ്ഥയിലെത്തുമെന്നു ചില വിദഗ്ദര്‍ കണക്കു കൂട്ടുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ രോഗബാധ 8-9 മാസം വരെ തുടനുള്ള സാധ്യതയും തള്ളിക്കളയുന്നില്ല.
ലോകമെങ്ങുമായി മൂന്നു ലക്ഷം പേര്‍ക്കാനു ഇപ്പോള്‍ രോഗബാധ എന്നു ലോകാരോഗ്യ സംഘടന അറിയിച്ചു. 16,000 പേര്‍ മരിച്ചു. 150 കോടി ജനങ്ങളാണു രോഗം പേടിച്ച് വീടുകളില്‍ കഴിയുന്നത്.
രോഗം റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട് ചെയ്ത ശേഷം 67 ദിവസം കൊണ്ടാണു രോഗികളുടെ എണ്ണം ഒരു ലക്ഷമായത്. 11 ദിവസം കൊണ്ട് വീണ്ടും ഒരു ലക്ഷം പേര്‍ക്ക് രോഗം ബാധിച്ചു. മൂന്നാമത്തെ ലക്ഷം പേര്‍ക്ക് രോഗം വരാന്‍ നാലു ദിവമേ എടുത്തുള്ളു-ലോകാരോഗ്യ സംഘടനയുടെ ഡയറക്ടര്‍ ജനറല്‍ ഡോ. ടെഡ്രോസ് ഗബ്രെയുസുസ് പറഞ്ഞു.
ന്യു യോര്‍ക്കില്‍ പാര്‍ക്കുകള്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കാമെങ്കിലും ആളുകള്‍ തമ്മില്‍ കുറഞ്ഞത് ആറ് അടിയെങ്കിലുംദൂരം കാക്കണമെന്ന് മേയര്‍ ബില്‍ ഡി ബ്ലാസിയോ പറഞ്ഞു
ന്യു യോര്‍ക്ക് സിറ്റിയിലെ പ്രമുഖ കണ്വന്‍ഷന്‍ സെന്റര്‍ ജേക്കബ് ജാവിറ്റ്‌സ് സെന്റര്‍ 250 ബെഡ്ഡുള്ള് ആശുപത്രിയാക്കാന്‍ ഗവര്‍ണര്‍ ആന്‍ഡ്രു കുവോമോ ഉത്തരവിട്ടു. ലോംഗ് ഐലന്‍ഡില്‍ രണ്ടും വെസ്റ്റ് ചെസ്റ്ററില്‍ ഒന്നും വീതം താല്ക്കാലിക ഹോസ്പിറ്റലുകള്‍ തുടങ്ങും. ഇവയില്‍ എല്ലാം കൂടി 1000 ബെഡുകളുണ്ടാവും.
അതിനു പുറമെ സ്റ്റേറ്റിലെ ആശുപത്രികളില്‍ ബെഡ്ഡുകളുടെ എണ്ണം പകുതി കണ്ട് കൂട്ടാന്‍ ഗവര്‍ണര്‍ ആശുപത്രികളോട് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു.
Florida imposes self-quarantine for visitors flying from New York

New York, March 24 (IANS) Internal controls are emerging in the US with New York City becoming the epicentre of the COVID-19 pandemic and Florida became the first state to require people coming from there to self-quarantine for 14 days.
Governor Ron DeSantis said on Monday that anyone flying in from the city and surrounding areas will face criminal penalties if they do not self-quarantine.
"I would reckon, given the outbreak there, that every single flight has somebody on it who is positive for Covid-19," he said.
New York State has recorded 20,884 cases of Covid-19, while Florida has 1,227.
The self-quarantine requirement "is the only we can be sure the virus isn't going to be reintroduced to the state of Florida,a he said.
The regulation imposed internally for the first time is similar to the 14-day self-quarantine that people coming back from 28 European countries and China, South Korea and Iran have been instructed to observe, but without criminal penalty.
So far the restrictions imposed by DeSantis do not apply to people who drive in from the New York area.
With its warmer climate, Florida is a favourite retirement spot for people from the colder northern states and 20 per cent of its population is over 65 - the age group most susceptible to Covid-19 - compared to 16 per cent nationally.

'Breakthrough' self swab tests will be available this week in US
BY NIKHILA NATARAJANNew York, March 24 (IANS) The Donald Trump administrations coronavirus task force co-ordinator Dr. Deborah Birx today announced that a "breakthrough" solution for self swabbing will be available for Americans later this week so that individuals can do their own tests.
Speaking at a White House briefing Monday evening, Birx quoted mortality data from Europe and reassured American parents that no child under the age of 15 had succumbed to the virus there.
"There was the one 14 year old in China. So we still see that there is less severity in children and so that should be reassuring to the moms and dads out there", she said.
Speaking to Generation Z and to millennials, Birx said that less than one per cent of all the mortality is in the under-50 age group. Millennials are America's largest demographic cohort.
Birx called these patterns "reassuring" for all Americans.
Birx said the mortality data from Europe shows that 99 per cent of all deaths there, "in general", are in the over-50 age group and among those with underlying conditions.
"The pre existing condition piece still holds in Italy, with the majority of the mortality having three or more pre existing conditions", Birx said.
Birx cautioned that New York City, Jersey City and parts of Long Island now have an "attack rate" of close to one in 1000 which is five times what other areas are seeing.
"We're finding that 28 per cent of the submitted specimens are positive from that area where it's less than 8 per cent in the rest of the country", Birx said.
Birx called on New Yorkers in the COVID19 hotspots to "absolutely social distance and self isolate".
"Clearly the virus had been circulating there for a number of weeks to have this level of penetrance into the general community", Birx said.
New York has become the US epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, with 99 deaths on Monday, March 23. The US now has nearly one third of global deaths. The Johns Hopkins Hospital tracker puts the US death toll at above 530.
Birx said many of the alarmist projections are based on a situation where preventive social distancing is not in place.
"That's what would happen if we did nothing at all", she explained.
At the same briefing, US president Donald Trump confirmed that New York will begin treating some patients with a combination of Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin. Last week, Trump touted anti-malarial drug Hydroxychloroquine as a gamechanger. Trump's task force has contradicted the president's claims saying there is only anecdotal evidence of anti-malarials' efficacy in COVID19 cases.
