(Wrote and published this poem in 1970 in the college magazine, The Vidhyasamgrah, while I was a student at C.M.S. College, Kottayam.)
One day looking through my door
I saw the arc of a rainbow soar
Marvelous with its spectrum bright
Bent out in an arc of splendid light!
Historians trace out your story
Poets write about your glory
And scientists feel never weary
As they make out your theory!
Rays of light amounting to seven
Entering water drops suspended in heaven
Refracts, reflects and the spectrum is there
Spread out in an arc in the extensive air!
Seven are your colors: violet, indigo, blue
Green, yellow, orange and red is there, too
Arranged by the laws which the scientists know
High wavelengths above and low ones below!
This arc you can see in the western sky
When the sun, of course, in the east is high
And when the sun moves to the west
An eastern rainbow is bright and best!
As my eyes gaze upon the arc
A simple thought creeps in my heart:
We praise the science that found the law,
How great the Power that made the law!
