Our best last rites (poem: Chetana Panikkar)

Unrequited love and rites of passage: In the
Class of Eightynine

Our best last rites,
 Were perhaps Loves’ insurances
And what best defines us

 Is: we weren’t encouragers of
Our juniors guile and even the elite front benchers,
Were best defined by  those who sat back
and of those who stayed ahead,

Defined also by that, that we couple and uncouple Thoughts’ essayed remberances.
(We coupled too in mind with every chosen crushes)

Those who passed on early,
were pacts of  life and deaths,
and those who stayed back to guard are the crushes of tomorrow’s wards.

Those who broke Loves’ law to be platonic at school,
(Were there coupled  bodys and broke the rule?
We there secrets unknown and hid, that made understand the que?)

Even then that is what we were partly  areall in the class of eighty nine.
My unrequited love ; my class of eighty nine.

Our best last rites are left for Tomorrow.
(truncating ;  coz your attention wanders here)
