Sudhir Panikkaveetil’s short stories – An appreciation (Prof. Sreedevi Krishnan)

Sudhir Panikkaveetil, no doubt, is delightfully readable. His language is from his heart and commendably portrays variety of    emotions   and
feelings. Love, Romance, interwoven through that common thread
sense of humor which give a chuckle to his readers. Coming from his pen, even the mundane things become interesting.

The first story "Sh, Aarodum parayaruthu" is simply the spontaneous feeling provoked by the intimacy of a husband and wife .Actually, in various places the author resorts to using the lyrics of popular film songs. "Kalabhathil mungi varum",”Inyennu kannum nammal" etc.

Similarly," Valayocchakal' tells the story of romantic KalyanaKrishnayyar and his wife Swarnaambaal and the tingling - sound of her bangles, tingling sound while making 'Dosas ‘. Kalyana krishnaIyer’s admiration for his neighbor was middle- aged and mother of three daughters .This simple plot shows the author's ability to make use of a most ordinary thought.

" Kumkuma  pottu' is autobiographical .Setting in a picturesque village back ground, the plot is undoubtedly nostalgic and haunted by the memories of the author's grandmother.

I strongly recommend this collection of short stories which would not disappoint the readers. But, you cannot judge the book without reading the
fifty stories. A few of the stories I have high-lighted, is only invite you to a smorgasbord and its grander finale,"Pudding”. So, please do take part and judge for yourself. After all, they say, "The proof of puddings. Is in the eating"!!
